About Honey
❄️WINTER WOOF DRIVE REDUCED $50 ADOPTION FEE ❄️
Honey is as sweet as her name suggests and she has truly stolen the hearts of all who have spent any time with her.
HOUSEHOLD- At this stage, she would best suit an adult only household due to her nervous tendencies around new people, loud sudden noises, fast unpredictable movements and new situations but, she could be suitable for socialising with children once she has gained some confidence in her new home. She will need time and patience to adjust and allow her confidence to build with someone she trusts. She has never showed a single aggressive reaction towards any of these moments. She loves being close to her people and would thrive on being involved in everyday life as much as possible. She can be vocal when she is alone and does not want to be and may have some separation anxiety issues so a family who is at work often may not be a good fit.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Honey is very attentive and does enjoy most food treats offered to her. She has a few basic obedience skills such as sit but would always benefit from some on-going training to help her cement a bond with her new family and keep her good manners going.
ON LEAD- Honey is very mindful of handler and gentle on the lead most of the time. She checks in with the handler regularly and is always ready to listen to verbal commands when given. She will still pull a bit when following a scent or seeking an item that she really wants but is easy to settle and move away if needed.
PLAY/TOYS- While she shows brief interest in a variety of toys here at the facility she prefers to interact with her handlers and explore new areas. This behaviour will most likely change once she is settled in a new home and we would recommend offering her a variety of toys and trialling a variety of different games at home to see what she prefers.
OTHER DOGS- Honey has met many dogs, both large and small, whilst in care at the facility and she has been friendly and approachable for all she has met. She appears to read their body language well and appears suitable to be rehomed with a canine companion. A meet and greet would still be required for the new doggy housemate/s.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- With cats and pocket pets Honey displayed a cautious and uncomfortable vibe in our cattery. She did enter with handler support and was more focused on investigating the cat food and litter rather than seeking interaction from the cats themselves. When she was hissed at she did bark, growl and do a little lunge forwards in defence. Whilst this behaviour was short lived and only provoked from a hiss (or two) she is not suitable for a home with existing cats or pocket pets at this stage.
CAR RIDES- Honey copes very well in a car and showed minimal signs of stress.
GROOMING/CARE - Honeys short coat and ease with handling will make her basic care needs very straight forward. A recent paralysis tick recovery will require vigilance with her preventative treatments due to the risk of a more severe reaction if a tick was to affect her again in the next year or so but other than this Honey is smooth sailing.
EXERCISE- Honey will require a daily walk and games/time spent wit her in the backyard to help keep her happy, healthy and busy. While she has shown herself to be dog social at the facility we unfortunately cannot test for group dog settings such as a visit to the dog parks, beaches etc. If you were hoping to visit these places we would recommend postponing your trip till around 3mths post adoption until she has had time to settle in and feel comfortable with her recall commands and her bond with her new family.
BREED - American Staffy X
Honey's $100 adoption fee covers: microchipping, lifetime registration, desexing, current vaccination, flea & worming treatments. Due to her breed, Honey's adoption fee also includes an independent breed and temperament assessments.
