Rex Rescue has been operating in conjunction with Pets without Partners, a successful indepedent animal rescue and rehoming member of Pet Rescue Queensland. Rex Rescue was formed after the founder of this group, who has spent several years volunteering in a prominent animal shelter, became aware that these extraordinary cats are usually seen as "commercially undesirable" and therefore euthanised. Often this assumption is based on their unique appearance and while private surrenders of Rex cats are low (as are strays) the euthanasia rates are high. As the owner of Devon Rex cats, the very thought of a life being compromised on appearance alone is unethical. Rex's don't cope well in a shelter environment, hence the introduction of Rex Rescue. We hope to become the first option for persons looking to adopt a Rex (rescue) cat. We will also consider private rehoming (depending on foster home availability) sparing these cats a shelter existence, where the chance of a happy ending is likely to be nil.
