About Rio
Let's talk working breeds!
Genetically bred to work for hours, to problem solve, to work alongside their humans, to be alert, to spring into action, to round things up, to react to movement, to be busy.... you get the picture!
Here we have Rio, with his movie star good looks & his brilliant brain - he is a very appealing guy. We are looking for a specific home where his new guardian will already have experience of living with a working breed dog & will understand their needs.
Rio requires daily physical & mental stimulation: walks, games, runs, training, sniffaris, problem solving, human interaction, activities such as agility, scent work, trick training. He does not necessarily need a flock of sheep to herd but he DOES need opportunities to release his working energy & use his brain. If his needs are not met then there is a high chance that behavioural issues will arise.
Rio really wants to meet other dogs but needs to learn some more appropriate manners in order to do so. He can at times, be a little OTT in his greetings! This may take some time but Rio may be able to live with a suitable sociable canine companion. A meet & greet prior to adoption is essential.
Rio has lived with children in the past but has a tendency to round them up & jump up a bit, therefore we would recommend a home with older dog-savvy kids of perhaps 10+ years old.
Secure fencing is essential as he is a boy who does not appreciate too much alone time & may want to go & find his "flock" if left alone for prolonged periods of time.
So, as beautiful as he is, have a long think about whether your lifestyle can accommodate a dog like Rio. A strong commitment to his ongoing training & guidance will result in one of the most loyal & intelligent companions you ever had.
